25 years ago EDS was established as a design consultancy providing accommodation solutions for both private clients, companies and the public sector. We quickly became established and our client list grew receiving repeat commissions based not only on the actual designs for projects but also on our total commitment to cost control. We were lead designers on projects up to one million pounds and we proudly were able to say all our schemes were completed on time and on budget. Whilst working for large NHS trusts and companies with household names was great fun, we now undertake smaller projects for private clients and by reducing our workload are able to now offer our services free of VAT meaning at least a 20% saving on professional fees to our clients. Our very simple moto is 'support the client and not our ego'. We are happy to give initial telephone advice on a project without a charge so if you are considering a scheme, give us a call on 01772 435519.
New build, extensions, barn conversions including obtaining planning permissions where required, full construction drawings and building control approval are all included. In addition we undertake flood risk assessments and with partner consultants, structural engineering and mechanical and electrical services. Lastly we offer full contract supervision with financial monitoring.
We undertook our first major NHS project in 2000 for a large Mental Health Trust. There followed over 100 projects over many years from the Trust in all service areas. Alongside this specialist work we extended our expertise into the acute health sector carrying out projects at a number of major hospitals. Projects ranged from small schemes for tens of thousands of pounds up to major projects with a value approaching one million pounds.
13 schools, over 100 outpatient clinics for one NHS Trust and three major acute hospital sites for another NHS Trust. These together with many smaller projects received disabled access audits by EDS. In all cases a detailed schedule of works to rectify barriers to inclusive access were prepared including costs, together with a works programme.
Creating a showroom and studios from a bare concrete shell in the west end of London to allow the display and playing of what are perhaps the finest pianos in the world was initially a little daunting, but became particularly satisfying. A back drop of burr oak panelling incorporating 3 metre high acoustic doors with red lacquer features gave an air of real quality but never became a distraction.
